The Kolkata Film Festival International decided to honor the legendary filmmaker
Ritwik Ghatak, with an exhibition showing his rare photograph, handwritten letter, and original censorship copy of that time.

Honorable filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak was born on 4 Nov 1925 and died on 6 Feb 1976 in Kolkata, West Bengal.
His notable work as an Indian filmmaker is known for Meghe Dhaka Tara, Subarnarekha, etc.
As an Indian filmmaker, Mr. Ghatak portrayed the different layers of the society, the struggle of the
people, and socio-political messages through his movies.
He raises a powerful voice and describes the system of the nation.
Filmmaker Ghatak:
Ghatak’s commercially successful movie was Madhumita, which was released in 1958 as a Hindi film, for which he wrote the screenplay. At that time the other filmmaker, like Satyajit Ray, was creating an audience outside of India during their era. In the meantime, Ghatak and his film were appreciated within the nation only. Ray helped Ghatak cinema to promote his cinema in different aspects, but Ghatak did not get any international fame by that time. Ghatak’s works influence many Indian filmmakers, especially from the Bengali film industry or elsewhere; his remarkable influence as a director began to spread in Indian cinema later. In critics’ eyes, Ghatak was unbreakable.
Records of all time show his work of art of direction and story screenplay was always acknowledged as the greatest filmmaking. The movie Subarnarekha was ranked 11 in the Asian film magazine Cinemaya in 1998.
