About Coordination of Islamic Colleges
The Coordination of Islamic Colleges (CIC) is an academic governing body that designs and implements integrated courses by combining Islamic and secular disciplines. The body has pioneered the concept of women-only Islamic seminaries in Kerala, India, where Muslim girls are simultaneously trained in advanced Islamic theology and modern secular education up to the postgraduate level. At present, there are 95 Islamic colleges and institutes of advanced learning affiliated to the CIC. The CIC is ideologically aligned with Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama, the scholarly body representing the mainstream Sunni Muslims in Kerala. Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, the Kerala State president of Indian Union Muslim League, is the president of the CIC while Abdul Hakeem Faizy, an Islamic scholar and the executive board member of Cairo-based League of Islamic Universities (LIU), and a representative from India at the International Muslim Communities Congress, is its Secretary.
