The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) today, October 31, declared the results of the state’s first-ever semester-based Uchha Madhyamik (Higher Secondary) board examinations. The results were announced at a press conference held at the Council’s office in Salt Lake, Kolkata. This year, a total of 6.45 lakh students appeared for the newly introduced semester-format examination, with a pass percentage of 93.72%.

Two students — Pritam Ballav and Aditya Narayan Jana from Purulia — have secured Rank 1, scoring 98.97% marks. A total of 69 students made it to the top 10 ranks, out of which only three are girl students. According to official data, 56.03% of the total candidates were girls. The WBCHSE HS examinations were conducted from September 8 to September 22 across 2,106 centers in the state.

Under the new academic pattern, question papers have been designed to enhance analytical and writing skills among students. While Semesters 1 and 3 include multiple-choice questions (MCQs) to promote reasoning ability, Semesters 2 and 4 focus on short and descriptive answers to strengthen writing skills.
